Voting options
Voting at Local Government elections is compulsory.
Elections in Sunshine Coast Council divisions are conducted as "attendance voting". Attendance voting options include
- voting on polling day,
- pre-poll, and
- postal voting.
The most common way to vote on election day is by visiting a polling booth; during a local government election you can ONLY vote at a polling booth within your enrolled local area. Information about voting at a polling booth is available on the how to vote page. If you are unable to vote in your local area on election day you will need to place a pre-poll or postal vote.
Pre-poll voting
Voting prior to election day is called pre-poll voting. Information on pre-poll voting booths including dates and hours of operation will be provided here during election times. Pre-poll voting commences fourteen days prior to polling day and concludes at 6pm on the day prior to election day.
Postal voting
If you are already registered as a special postal voter or silent elector, you are not required to complete a postal vote application form as ballot papers will be automatically sent to you. If you do not fall under one of these categories but wish to receive your ballot material in the mail you will need to apply here for a postal vote.
Please read the voting in a local government election page for specific information on the different voting options available.
